A Scrumptious Gourmet Musical
By Jim Giancarlo, Darcy Danielson, and Jim Malachi
Noises Off! meets The Food Network in this hilarious new musical! The energy is running high during the debut broadcast week of EAT-TV, the first musical food network, and everyone involved has to ‘make it work’ to pull it off: Cookie Coutrell, the dessert chef; Spirulina Jones, the health food chef; Vincent Van Rhine, host of the wine show; and Vito La Gusto, the hot Italian chef. With an ambitious producer, hardworking techie, a major network deal, and a dash of sweet romance, EAT-TV is an inventive musical that serves up the drama and laughs with over 15 delightful original song.
Set in a cable television studio, it is the debut broadcast week for EAT-TV, the first musical food network. Bradley, the ambitious producer, sees EAT-TV as a stepping stone to greater things while all the TV chefs all have personal agendas forcing FM, the hardworking but anonymous techie, to do her best to keep everyone happy.
The big draw is Vito La Gusto, the hot Italian chef. He cooks onstage, sharing both delicious food and his philosophy on “the enjoyment of life and the blessings from above.” Cookie Coutrell, the dessert chef, is whipped cream on the outside and stainless steel on the inside. She seduces with the idea that “we all deserve a lot of sugar in our lives.” The program Eat to Live features Spirulina Jones, the hardline health food chef and author of the book Hemp, Kelp, Spelt and Sprouts. She warns, “It's the new millennium now and it's not about fun anymore." Vincent Van Rhine, host of the wine show Bottoms Up!, describes wine in hilarious metaphors and gets a bit too into his work.
Vito inspires a passionate response from everyone, including a tough street dude named Morty who shows up claiming to be Vito's forgotten twin. Things really begin to heat up when a rumor gets out that a major network is scouting EAT-TV. Vincent gets Spirulina drunk. Vito eats one of Spirulina's hemp brownies. Bradley mistakes Morty for Vito. The climax comes in an explosive cooking competition show, Lickety Split, which is out-and-out farce. Meanwhile, a sweet romance has gradually been blossoming between Vito and FM, culminating in the beautiful song “La Dolce Vita.”
